More wedding news…

…which I won’t translate. But I have to add this: Ashin made it back for some sort of celebration of the nuptials, with the stupid glasses firmly in place (scroll to the bottom). And sort of spreading, it seems, to Guaishou (Monster).

UPDATE: He claims to be wearing his glasses because he stayed up too late the night before watching the World Cup. Still, you’d think he’d be able to find a nicer pair, but whatever. Taiwan has a particularly high percentage of glasses-wearers (and everyone in Mayday except Stone has been photographed in glasses at some point or another), something that has long made me wonder about the effect on their (mandatory conscription) armed forces. The ROC must have the world’s most myopic military. I’ve long thought that the greatest aid the US could provide under the Taiwan Relations Act would be a troop of laser eye surgeons.

In the video he also tells fans not to worry about Mayday breaking up so he can go solo – he’s not ruling out a solo album at some point, from the sound of it (carefully not stated), but definitely not breaking up.

And then there were three

Ashin is promoting his book Happy Birth.day in Beijing in stupid looking glasses, which causes him to miss Guanyou’s wedding in Taipei.

Ignoring the typical frenzy of rumors surrounding anything these guys do, I’d certainly wish Guanyou the best, good luck, and all that.

Actually, Ashin looks a little like Guanyou in those pictures… maybe it’s a tribute?

July Concert – Taipei

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Ticket sales for Mayday’s two concerts this July in Taipei have already broken the venue’s records. Though there is still a month to go before the concerts, both nights are 80% sold out, for a total of 23,000 tickets.

The stage will be in a “Q” shape, so that more fans are able to see the band up close.

They contemplated adding an extra concert, but became worried about influencing Sun Yanzi’s concerts just a few days later.

Mayday’s fans in Taiwan have already started to advertise on the internet that everyone should wear red, to show their support for the band.

Of course, the idea of Mayday having a concert in Taipei makes perfect sense to me – it’s the first summer in four years I haven’t been there.  I will never see this band live….

So much for going solo…

While in Beijing, Ashin put to rest rumors of a coming solo career by saying that instead of breaking up, Mayday hopes to stay together longer than the Beatles.

He further stated that at the time, the Beatles broke up too early, which they regretted, so Mayday wants to stay together (presumably to avoid making similar mistakes).

The solo promotion of the book, it seems, is just that.
