This is the first newspaper report I’ve seen of the concert on Saturday, though it pales in comparison with the excellent reporting we’ve already gotten from Kaen and Jackie, who attended the concert.
The three hour concert entertained an audience of 8000, who hailed from Singapore, the U.S. (now that’s devotion), Hong Kong and Malaysia. The article makes a big point of three things:
- The audience stood for the entire concert, in spite of the fact that everyone in attendance had a seat (i.e. there was no standing-room only pit at the front). This doesn’t shock me, just because who sits politely through a rock concert? Not done, generally.
- The company invested a lot of money in the concert (though it is unclear if the amounts quoted are for this particular concert, or for the tour in general), including what looks to be rather obscene amounts on fireworks.
- Within the fans in attendance, there were a number of 50+ year-old “aunties,” who saw their “Prince Charming” Ashin descend from the stage, and grabbed at him as he walked down off the stage and near the crowd. They grabbed at his shirt, shoulders and waist. Hmmm, watch out, Monster – you’ve clearly got some competition for the affections of the more mature crowd. (Maybe it is time for us all to join forces and follow Serendipity’s example and conduct a poll of all the 50+ women we know to see which member of Mayday they find the most attractive?)
On a side note, the article asks the burning question: do you prefer Mayday in their “rock” attire or dressed up in their “Prince Charming” roles?
After the concert, the boys and their crew went to the favorite seafood restaurant in Singapore, where they all ate for about three hours, finally racking up a bill of around US$2500. The restaurant said that local Mayday fans, knowing it to be one of the band’s favorite Singapore haunts, had been coming nightly for days, hoping to catch a glimpse of the guys. Some followed them over from the concert as well.
I’ll add more updates when there’s more news – I’m sure it’s coming (for example, who was the special guest? That info hasn’t gotten a mention yet, from what I can tell). And if anyone else at the concert wants to share…
lol i asked my mom and her three other mj friends when they came over and the results so far…my mom said ashin, masa, guan you (seriously my mom..is…blind xD), stone and THEN monster. but my mom is not to be trusted lol. then the votes are somewhat split so i’ll just leave a total number. monster has two votes, ashin has two votes, and one vote goes to masa. that is in terms of “most eyecatching” at first glance. lol this is actually quite interesting to me..so i think i shall continue and ask around some more.. :]
hmm my answer to the burning question…i vote for..mayday in tshirt and jeans :] relaxed style! but must say, really adore ashin in his prince charming getup but i like monster more in his “rock” getup..and what do they classify as rock attire anyway? hmm..
i heard, and saw from the comments about the concert in the singapore mayday forum, that there was no special guest at all :] just mayday in all their awesome glory x]
As a 50+ Mayday fan, based on recent postings, it appears to be the appropriate time for me to cast my vote for the most handsome Mayday man. My number one choice is Monster, followed by Ashin…a close second but not number one. The rest of the band, though extremely talented, did not catch my eye the same way as Monster and Ashin. Monster is clearly the most handsome – just plain good looks! Ashin is cute, but his “normal” facial expression always looks a bit mischievious…like an Asian Dennis the Menace (yes, you need to be over 40 and perhaps American to know who that is!). One thing that needs to be clear, I am happily married to a very handsome man who looks far younger than his age, but I’m not blind or oblivious to attractive men that I encounter…in print or in person.
me!! i was there at the concert merry!
there wasnt any special guest.
it was just PURE MAYDAY for 3 solid hours!
the Singapore concert was just fab!
they were all in good shape for it, despite they arriving separately.
31 may – Monster,Stone,Masa
1 may – Ashin, Ming
Ashin was just fantastic! He managed to hit all the high notes and didnt forget his lyrics! it was just HIGH!!!!
Unforgetable FIRST EVER MAYDAY concert for me. =)
ohoh, just wanted to add on something.
Masa did a little solo-ing.
He was on the keys and rendered his own version of Coldplay’s Yellow.
I struggled hard not to laugh at his singing [which was unexpectedly awesome, despite the english] but he’s just cool and too HOT! Everyone just cheered for Masa! He did a piano version of “Jui Zhong Yao De Xiao Shi” or “The Most Important Trivial Thing”[ i hope i got the english version right].
It was awesome, awesome!
About that movie[ before the start, they screened that movie that you mentioned before, merry and i so agree that Stone is just the right choice for the action/guns bit], it was pretty interesting but probably the fans didnt really get what it meant, for it was kinda deep, according to my lil sister who was at the concert with me.hahahaa.
Just dont miss the chance to catch them!!
I, am, not, aching. *denial* XD
Anyway Masa was funny (as usual) in the opening video. And everyone was um *awed* by Monster waking up half-nekkid in the vid (was that supposed to make up for the no 肉色 throughout the whole concert??). Ming’s character was totally apt – he’s in charge of ration and well, 劉老闆就是劉老闆. XD Ashin, well, is as usual. *shrugs*
I was CRAZY when I heard the first line of Yellow! I mean, considering that I sing it every other day in class, I was so excited.
Oh there wasn’t any special guests anyway – I thought the whole concert was too short even without the special guest. (orz)
Definitely plain tees and jeans. Then we wouldn’t have to wait for them to change or anything, and more songs heh. (!) I don’t really like the new arrangement for Good Night, Earthlings; it lacked the majestic ‘feel’ leh. Oh but but but I love When The Wind Blows!!!!
Oh anyway, I was reading through the lyrics, and I thought for HoSee, 送你到蘇州賣鴨蛋 is an idiom of some sort in 台語. 回蘇州賣鴨蛋 means that someone has died, so if I’m sending you to Suzhou to sell duck eggs, I think it means that I’m going to… kill you? (HoSee嘛.)
Ah there I found an explanation. I hope I’m not too late, or has the question already been answered? o.o

Hello Merry,
I did say there was no special guest=p
Ah Kaen, I did see that. I thought at the time you meant it was over quickly, not absent altogether! Seems better this way, maybe they need to stop forcing special guests on unwilling audiences…
Hiakhiak – thanks! It definitely means “I’ll kill you,” but that link should be good for more background. I’ll add it in when I can.
well, they sure made me feel that I was 18 all over again (and that was awhile back in the early 1990s). i don’t know but listening to “john lennon” and “fool” sorta sparked the tears in my eyes – something about daring to dream and daring to hope I guess.
some withdrawal symptoms now – listening to their albums while driving in my Opel doesn’t quite cut the ice for me anymore!
hello!there was a special guest:Gary Cao.cao ge.and i think Guan You’s daughter was there too coz he said tat he would bring his daughter as the hong kong stop was too early for her..(??)
But.. I didn’t see guanyou’s daughter. I don’t think she was there.
i dint get to c his daughter too….but Guan You claims tat he brought her…
