Mayday Fans in the Americas

There are still bits of concert news trickling out from last weekend; little details like the fact that the boys in Mayday could smell the off-stage food stalls while performing in Toronto (no doubt causing some mouth-watering anxiety) and that they are still clearly the “rain gods” of L.A. Two years ago, when Mayday performed in California last, they brought heavy rain to both San Jose and L.A.; this time, L.A. had not seen rain in three months, but once Mayday arrived, the heavens opened. There are a few pics here. There’s also lots of good concert discussion for both shows going on here. Steve has a songlist up on his site for the L.A. concert, and teases us that his full review is coming soon. If you’ve read his reviews before, you’ll know that this will be one to watch for.

[Update: Steve’s review is, in fact, now up. Run, don’t walk, to MaydayBlue. We’ll wait.]

In the meantime, however, there has been some talk about whether or not it is time to try to set up a central “Mayday Fans in the Americas” website. (We’d hate to say “North America” and completely isolate the scattering of fans in the southern continent.) As such, Joanna (a superfan from CA) has some questions for the crowd, if we can find one:

1. Where geographically are you located in the Americas (no need to get too specific here – country and/or general direction, state or province is fine)

2. What Mayday-related sites do you visit regularly (this question, it seems to me, is for everyone, whether or not they are in the Americas)

3. Would you like/use a site that allowed you to chat with other Americas-based Mayday fans? Any particular content you’d wish for?

My sense is that if there are no replies, then we have our answer and there’s just no need for such heroic efforts at the present time. But with Mayday fans emerging from the woodwork this week to join in the concerts, if we do want to set up something, now is a good time to do it.

i’ve been itching to read that review for days! 😀

    o1. new york
o2. this blog (applause for merry!) and mdmd.net forum and asianfanatics forum too
o3. sure, any chance to connect with other mayday fans would be fantastic. i suppose the typical content? history/bg on mayday (some newer fans could benefit from this), lyrics (i suppose pinyin and translations?). and just a place to talk about mayday in ENGLISH! lol whether it be about the guys or their music :]

and i think it’s a great idea cos it is an opportunity to show a united front (and hopefully bring mayday over to america every year and to NY!)

  2. amber says:

    1. california
    2. official site (imayday.com) and probably this one from now on, and youtube for mvs and interviews…
    3. of course… lyrics w/ pinyin and translation, bios w/ random inside info learned from interviews or videos, translation of official blogs written by mayday members, etc.

  3. Pearle says:

    1. california, USA
    2. onedayinmay.com, maydayblue.com, youtube
    3. Lyrics with pinyin and English translations would be nice. Music videos and the latest news. Also, a place to discuss their music or upcoming events.

Thanks! I think this is a great idea that should happen!

  4. kate says:

    1. pa, usa.
    2. onedayinmay.net (the best site ever!) and mdmd.net and imayday.com once a while but there’s barely any updates on those sites. and mdmd.net forum has been so quite lately…
    3. that would be awesome! i think the content that i’d like to see would definitely be a place to discuss the music and lyrics. and the latest news. pinyin lyrics would be good for all those people who are trying to learn to sing along but can’t read a word of chinese.

  5. Lunzeea says:

    1.Philadelphia, PA
    2. news.yam.com, a thread in Jaychou.net forum (yeah I’m Jay chou fan too) and now this blog. sometime imayday.
    3. yup it definitely a good idea since we really need a place to discuss about their music, translated news, any info on Mayday.

  6. emily says:

    01. new york
    02. this one, ashin’s blog on sina, imayday, google.tw news and youtube for mayday related things.
    03. definitely. i pretty much want what everyone else has been saying – mayday’s upcoming schedule, a forum for fans, lyrics with pinyin. while i hate to use another artist’s fan club as a model, leehom’s north american fan club (www.homsweethome.com) has done quite well.

  7. quarkdown says:

    1. montreal
    2. this site (thks for always keeping us informed with news about our favorite band!), imayday (it’s very sad that the updates are rather rare and most of the sections (eg. walls, mvs) are never updated…) , youtube, sometimes i search for specific info on google
    3. an “americas” website would be a very good idea. it could really show mayday and the everyone else how many fans there are in america and like serenpidity said, it might hopefully help convince mayday to come back more often = ). the content i would like to see is pretty much like everyone else (forums, various infos, lyrics, etc) and perhaps also pictures/wallpaper, “rare” info, and links sections.

PS: if a site is set up and you need ppl to help with the “construction” or anything else like that i would be very glad to lend a hand = )

  8. quarkdown says:

    edit: sorry i misspelled serendipity…

  9. Ronny says:

I’m from Hong Kong so I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to answer those questions. Hahaha.

I thought you guys have a Mayday for Americas site long long time ago. Hahaha. It’s definitely good idea to set up one.

People like me are welcomed right? =P

i can tell you guys news from PTT (a taiwan bbs which Mayday will visit occasionally) and other Chinese sites.

  10. kate says:

Lunzeea: HEY! we’re from the same place!

  11. Tina says:

    1) CA

2)This site (thx for all the news) and asianfanatics.net

    3) Of course, we should have an american based fans site. All the other sites are in chinese. Mayday should be aware of how welcome they are in the states and other countries.

  12. Beryl says:

Okay, so actually I’m from Taiwan (a great place to be when you’re a Mayday fan, of course… but still, as a student, there are still countless limits when it comes to attending events). Although, I would probably be returning to the U.S. for college soon anyway (and therefore, would want to help with the “Mayday, please come to America!” effort)!

    Answering the questions…

    1. I was born in North Carolina, but I honestly don’t know where I would be when I go to America (it all depends on which college I get in!).

    2. imayday, Yahoo! News or Knowledge in Taiwan, PPT, this site (actually, I didn’t realize there’s a blog until recently, but I stumbled upon the lyrics site a long time ago, even though I didn’t really need it. I do like your take on things, though… Oh, and the fact that you paraphrase articles in simplified Chinese which I always have a hard time understanding, so thanks a lot for those!) and some other blogs.

    3. Mainly, I’d just like to be able to hear the opinions of people based in the Americas…

So, as Ronny asked, people like us are welcomed, right? : )

  13. Joanna says:

Thanks so much for your responses. I am about to cry. I thought that my idea was not really popular at first. But now I see you guys’ comments, i feel like we have enough energy to move forward.

This is going to be a ‘vision come true’.

I think Merry is still waiting for more responses. It will be nice if you can forward this thread to anyone who loves Mayday and ask them to post their feedback. :)

  14. janie says:

    1. born in taiwan but now i live in LA for school

    2. imayday.com, onedayinmay.net, maydayblue, youtube… and singapore forums for mayday discussions

    3. since merry already has a really good translation site, maybe a place to download their interviews plus translations, news articles, um…and of course a picture gallery! 😀 oh yes, and a forum for fans to discuss mayday.

  15. Linda says:

    1. Washington, DC

    2. onedayinmay.net and asianfanatics.net

  16. annie says:

    1. LA area, CA
    2. this one! :) and the mdmd forum (Singapore English-based)
    3. sure! I find the mdmd forum to be a good place to chat now mostly because it’s in English… a similar forum for fans in the Americas would be nice so that we all get excited at the same time 😛 sometimes it’s hard to join in on the conversation when members are talking about local Singapore events

  17. cindy says:

    1. Toronto, ON, Canada

    2. onedayinmay.net, asianfanatics.net, youtube

    3. Yes, definitely!! It’ll help confirm their North American fanbase, and hopefully, they will come to this side of the planet more often. Content-wise: downloads, news articles, pictures, album/song reviews, lyrics!

  18. melody says:

    1) Toronto, Canada

    2) i visit this site regularly now (it’s great, found this last month when i type in “mayday autograph toronto” on google), Ashin’s blog, asianfanatics, youtube for sure for news and interviews, music videos =)

    3) yup, that’s a great idea, would love to connect w/ mayday fans of america. an english site would be great since my chinese isn’t that good.
concent – i would say news & interviews, recent pics, lyrics and translations, music videos, discussions!!

Would you like/use a site that allowed you to chat with other Americas-based Mayday fans? Any particular content you’d wish for?

  19. Frank says:

    1. California

    2. Onedayinmay.net, Maydayblue, Maydaymayday.net

  20. Karen says:

    1. Toronto

    2. Onedayinmay.net, Maydayblue, Maydaymayday.net, imayday.com, asianfanatics, Ashin’s blog, youtube

    3. I think having the website would be great. As for the content, there should definitely be lyrics with pinyin, especially for the taiyu songs, news and a forum.
