One Day in May…

I’m not sure how I feel about Mayday getting all these style awards, but today the band traveled to Shanghai to pick up their “China Fashion Award.” (The category was something about the most fashionable group or some such; not unlike the MTV style award they picked up recently.)

On his blog today, Ashin noted that they had to leave at 4 a.m. to travel to Shanghai, noting that surely one of the most exhausting things in the world must be attending awards ceremonies – though the fans are just as hardworking, as many of them went straight from Golden Horse events to the airport to view their favorite stars departing for other locations. (He later corrects this when he notices that Korean star Lee Jun-ki had attended the Golden Horse Ceremony the night before, but arrived in Shanghai along with them… so surely the most exhausting thing in the world is attending two awards ceremonies.)

Anyway, the Fashionable Female Artist from Taiwan (… or something like that) was grabbed by Fish Leong. She arrived (as is her habit of late) hand-in-hand with Victor Wong, and the two sang a duet at the ceremony (also hand-in-hand, but this bit of hand-holding is less convincing.) The Fashionable Male Artist was won, surprisingly, by Chang Chen-yue. YAY!! He was looking a bit bemused by all the hubbub. The full list of winners is here.

But here’s the really BIG news: Ashin is wearing different pants!!!

We must celebrate this auspicious occasion… (But that picture, at least, seems to support my theory about the other pair of pants. Hmmm.) I look forward to many more appearances of these gray pants in the future. Even if he just started trading off between the two pairs, that would be a vast improvement.

Update: I *love* entertainment reporting. A subheading in this article says, “Masa: Wanted to walk red carpet with Fish Leong.” But then when you read the relevant paragraph, it turns out that Fish and Victor walked in first, and then Mayday followed them, with Masa leading the pack “as if trying to catch up with Fish.” The reporters asked Masa about their entrance, and he said that who comes in with whom is all arranged by the event organizers. Then they asked if if he would be willing to walk in with Fish, and he answered, “Of course I’d be willing.” Naturally, being willing to accept a directive to walk with her = wishing he could have taken Victor’s place. Heh, it is too funny. Just when you think all that is over, there’s always a fun new little angle to manipulate.
