Arctic Tee

This article begins on an alarmist note by observing that Taipei is wearing short sleeves and turning on the air conditioning this December, showing that winter is no longer cold. It’s unseasonably warm in DC today as well, but it was unseasonably cold and snowing here a week ago, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

To coincide with the Taiwan premiere of the quasi-documentary Arctic Tale in January, Ashin has been asked to design a t-shirt to help promote the film and the cause of fighting global warming. The idea, naturally, is to have a famous figure come out and raise awareness (er, was there not one already? The more the merrier, I guess). Ashin and No2good are creating a limited edition polar bear cub design through their Stay Real label.

Of course, internationally, lots of famous faces are promoting global warming awareness these days; there’s Al Gore and his documentary An Inconvenient Truth and Leonardo DiCaprio and his far less influential The 11th Hour. We’ll be polite and not get into that whole “Live Earth” debacle.

Ashin and No2good were apparently quite moved by the cute little polar bear cubs in the film (though this strikes me as being sort of like the cute roly-poly panda bears. They’re adorable, but… they’re still bears). They hope their design, which they have apparently not yet revealed, will influence people to pay more attention to the environment.

There will be a shirt-selling activity in Ximending in Taipei on Dec. 23, at which point it will be possible to buy the shirt and receive a ticket to the Taiwan premiere of the film.

Discuss AshinXNo2Good, polar bears, or well, global warming, at the MaydayAmericas Forum.

Update: Thanks to onesunnyday at the forum for pointing out that the design is on his blog, along with some thoughts about global warming.

wow, that’s a cool shirt. is there any way to get it outside taiwan?

i’m usually not a slave to endorsed products, but i do tend to be a sucker for merchandises. even tho merchandises do tend to be the less useful of the two.
