I just can’t stand it.

Now he’s just torturing me. From Saturday night’s memorial concert for Chang Yu-sheng:

Ashin, why do you hate me?

Suspenders and glasses. Together. Live and on stage. Now really, Ashin. I’m tempted to march right on over there and demand that your stylist start accepting my input… though I have no real sense that a.) there is a stylist involved in these decisions or b.) that I wouldn’t get arrested for trying. Hmm.

Chang Yu-sheng released his first album “Everyday Thinking of You” twenty years ago, and he died almost eleven years ago. To celebrate his compositional talent, Mayday, sodagreen, A-mei, Fan-fan, and Jam Hsiao gathered to perform his songs. Sodagreen lead singer Qingfeng was celebrating his birthday the day of the concert, but he willingly gave it to Chang Yu-sheng, singing his classic, “My Future Is Not a Dream.”

Mayday sang a creative combined version of their song “Tenderness” and Chang’s song “Everyday Thinking of You,” which sounds fantastic (and like it might help to make up a little bit for Ashin’s unfortunate fashion choices). Ashin explained of the combined song that the people who needed to understand it would be able to automatically. Jam Hsiao sang a “duet” with Chang Yu-Sheng, replacing Matilda Tao’s voice with his own, and bravely facing the challenge of singing it in the original key. He admitted to being very nervous, taking the stage with so many famous people.

To celebrate Qingfeng’s birthday, his band presented him with a blender. He admitted that he doesn’t consider birthdays all that important, but that spending the day celebrating Yu-sheng’s songs with fans was enough for him. A-mei’s first album was produced by Yu-sheng, so she sang several songs for the crowd, unable to hold back her tears. Chang Yu-sheng’s parents were similarly moved by the event, and thanks the performers for all of their efforts.

Okay, there’s more news (on this and other things), but I’m leaving for the airport soon, and, well, the packing is not quite done… I’ll catch up later in the week.

Mayday, sodagreen, A-mei, Fan-fan, and Jam Hsiao? That sounds great, just judging by that list of artists! I managed to dig up a news clip of it on Youtube with a quick search:

Jam Hsiao really did a good job from what I’m hearing. He can go really high! Too bad they didn’t include Ashin singing that combined song in the news clip.

    Haha! A blender?

Now, as far as Ashin’s attire, keep in mind that he’s been in the studio working hard on the new album. We all wear our comfortable old clothes when we’re working in private, right? As soon as the new album is out, they’ll all be wearing new white jumpsuits or something.
