heh, karma’s a b!tch

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…..

Ahem. So there’s a whole bunch of news articles on Mayday’s latest activities that mention rumors going around that Mr. Jay Chou – Pres. Chou, Cowboy Jay himself – has faked his album’s sales figures. In them, Ashin comes out very forcefully voicing confidence in Jay that JVR Music failed to show in Mayday, saying that he’s sure Jay’s sales figures are the truth, because hey, he’s Jay. He doesn’t have trouble selling albums.

I’m sure that Ashin is right about this, and I’m sure there will soon be another forceful statement from Whiny Jay about how he’s the only honest man left in the music industry, but the very fact that these rumors exist at least gives me a good laugh. How’s it feel to be falsely accused on no evidence, Mr. Chou?

In totally unrelated news, after two weeks in the number 2 slot, Mayday is back on top of the G-Music charts. Jay is number 6, which is also irrelevant. It appears, by the way, that no one took those JVR accusations very seriously, because almost every article on Mayday makes a comment about how Mayday beat Jay’s sales record when their album came out. The band for its part keeps repeating its statement that it doesn’t want to compare sales, because all that matters is that they are selling in a bad economy. It’s enough for them, and it should be enough for anyone.

Anyway, this all came up while Mayday was out promoting the new BenQ Joybook Lite U101, which is the company’s answer to the Asus Eee (I got a tiny little Eee for my birthday this year, and I looooove it… finally, a computer that fits comfortably on the tray table of a plane even when the seat in front of you is reclined!! It’s also handy for writing Mandopop concert reviews on the train home from Shanghai 😀 ). Ashin was given a pen and told to draw on the model – who was already painted blue:

blue girl

Why blue? Dunno. Being Ashin, he was all embarrassed by the idea, but he finally wrote on her shoulder, though he joked that it would have been easier to draw on her stomach, since it would have been a flatter surface. Monster was celebrating his 32nd birthday at the event, and so he got cake and bear hugs from the fans.

hahaha only one hug la, to a girl fan. He also got a bottle of wine, a cake where the decoration is a wine bottle and a squishy heart and liver from us XDD

[I cant help but feeling smug after reading the paragraph about JVR…]

Cant wait until you translate “Spring’s Cheer”. I had fun finding out about the double meanings inside 😀

[BTW, just wanted to ask about a part of More than Surviving, Less than Living, for the sentence “上課鐘 變成打卡鐘”, does “打卡鐘” mean the card where workers put into a slot to record the time when they get to/leave work?]

  2. Merry says:

Oh, here I figured there were hugs all around… seems like a better way to celebrate a birthday, really. 😛

Re “Spring’s Cheer”… does this mean that when I inevitably miss some of those double meanings you’ll come help clue me in? Pretty please?

Yeah, 打卡鐘 is a time clock for punching in and out of work, like in factory jobs. (I *so* had to look that up when I was working on that song!)

  3. Steve says:

Haha. Ashin, uncomfortable around a girl yet again.

  4. cat says:

The birthday party was only 1/2 an hour and they didnt talk that much… i think they all wanted to get some sleep [They looked incredibly tired that night]

Are you sure you want me to put some of the explanations here? [I’ve only figured out three of them though, but they are the main focus parts of the song]

Thanks for the explanation about the time clock, I didn’t really get it before XD

  5. Merry says:

Heh, based on what I know so far and how, erm, “colorful” the language is, maybe you should email me (merry @ onedayinmay.net).

Boy, I’m mean to Jay here, aren’t I? I need to meditate on why he’s so much on my nerves lately…

    Merry,

I just read the lyrics translation of The Yet Unbroken Part of My Heart & found 3 mistakes I think.

“鏡頭”變成了刀槍, “鏡頭” means camara lens but not the mirror (鏡子).

當人心變成”市場”, “市場” means the market but not a city (城市).

孩子一樣, this sentence means The Yet Unbroken Part of My Heart (the previous sentence) is still like a child (a child’s heart)

    ^^

  7. hobielover says:

Merry, you haven’t scared all of the Jay fans off yet. 😛 Some of us keep coming back, you know.

Thanks so much for working so hard on the translations! It’s hard and very tedious, so I’m sure everyone appreciates the effort you put into it.

  8. Merry says:

Thanks for the corrections, Linda (and the encouragement, hobielover!). I’ve got a lot of little mistakes from not paying attention, and probably some really big ones from misunderstanding… I always like to hear what I’m getting wrong. I’ll get the rest of the album up asap.

    Hey, Merry!

Glad to see the translations for ‘Poetry After’ coming along…:)

Just my 2 cents, for “Like Smoke”, I think ”還欠了他一生的 一句抱歉” means to return him the apology that I’ve owed him all my life. I’ve not phrased it very poetically but I think this is slightly closer to the meaning…

  10. cat says:

I sent the email off to you~

  11. Merry says:

Ah, an excellent point, migratory bird. I’ll fix it. Thanks!!!

  12. Joann says:
